Caring For Your Flute

These instruments are easy to care for as long as you follow a few golden rules. See some tips, tricks and guidance below.

Placing the Sound Block

The placement of your sound block is essential for getting a good sound out of your flute. At the beginning of each session, be sure to check that the bottom of your sound block aligns with the edge of the slanted lip and tighten the leather straps so it stays in place. See picture for proper alignment.

Heat & Cold

Our flutes are professionally tuned at 20C and 60% humidity. However, your flute is a living being, and may change depending on the environment. It is very important to not have your flute experience drastic temperature changes such as being close to a fire, left out in cold temperatures and then warmed quickly, or left in direct sunlight for prolonged periods. This can cause your flute to crack.

Finish & Playing

We coat the inside of our flutes with a durable epoxy to ensure that even after hours of playing, the moisture of your breath will never penetrate the flute and make it crack. Our exterior finish is hardy and should last the lifetime of your flute.

However, if anything feels consistantly "off" about your flute, please reach out!
