Custom Flutes

Below are the various aspects you can choose for your custom flute.

We offer a full range of single flutes (from a high D(5) to a low F(3), drones, alternating drones, triple drones, harmony drones.

• Single flutes are responsive, versatile, and generally, easiest to play depending on the key.
• Drones have a magical harmony with two flutes in one! You can play either side, or both together. We also make "alternating drones". This means there is a hole on the drone side for your pinkie that gives you the fifth and the octave. It is for more advanced players but we can always put a leather strap on it! The drones are great for beginner and intermediate players.
• Triple drones are incredible instruments with three flutes in one! They considerably expand the range of options in your playing, but they are definitely for more advanced players.
• Bass and Contrabass flutes are low range flutes (from C4 to F3) that generate a quiet, deep resonant sound. The contrabass will have a backblown piece and a wider finger spacing. For more experienced players as well.

The key of your flute will dictate how high or low your flute plays at. The lower the key, the bigger the flute, the quieter the sound and the bigger the fingerspread.

• High range flutes are clear and crisp like a bird! they range from D(5) to A(4)
• Mid range flutes offer a warm and full tone. These are a fox size flute. They range from G(4) to F(4)
• Low range flutes have a deeper sound and keep a strong volume. Let's say a badger. They range from E(4) to D(4)
• Bass flutes have this beautiful, low haunting voice like a wolf. They range from C(4) to B (3).
• Contrabass flutes create a deep reverberation sound, calming and soothing. Think of a whale. They are wonderful especially when played with a microphone. They range from A (3) to F(3)

We also offer a variety of tunings. The main ones would be: 6 Hole Pentatonic minor, Aeolian, Hijaz, Anasazi. However, we are always looking for new ideas so if there is a particular scale you're interested in, we are happy to try to make it! The tuning of your flute determines the "feeling" or "flavor" of the sound.

• 6 Hole Pentatonic Minor - When you hear a "classic" Native American Style Flute, this is probably what you're hearing. This tuning is the most versatile, as you can play chromatically.
• Aeolian - Also called natural minor,This scale is a beautiful melancholic sound with flavors of Eastern European traditional music. This tuning also offers access to the relative major and the pentatonic minor.
• Hijaz/Arabian - This tuning is very unique and you will immediately be transported to an ancient medina amongst the snake charmers of the middle east. It's beautiful and worldly.
• Anasazi - A special tuning that sounds like a distant dream. Calming, and beautiful this tuning reminds us of an ode to the moon.

The wood and designs you choose can create the beauty of your flute that you can't help but to pick up. We love to get creative with you and bring your ideas to life. Some examples of the wood and embellishments we do are:

• Wood - Some light woods we work with are Maple, Oak, Eastern Ash, and Cherry. Darker woods include Walnut, Tiger Wood, and Purple Heart. We can also dye a light wood.
• Designs - We love to do motif inlays with stones like turquoise, malachite, or other shades of wood. We also do woodburning where designs are hand-etched into the flute. Finally, we can create special designs for the fetish and or on the end of the flute like a birds head or snake.
