Scales

Minor Pentatonic

This is the main scale for Native American Style Flutes. Though the key of the flute will change the notes, this scale follows the pattern of: rootminor thirdfourthfifthminor seventhoctave. This is a great scale to start.

Major Pentatonic

This is a great next scale to try and expand your playing. This scale changes the root note, and will drastically alter the way your melodies can sound depending on the key of your flute.

Spanish Gypsy

This scale is unique and enchanting, evoking a Middle Eastern or Klezmer feel. This scale makes use of the upper register of your flute.

Northern

This is a beautiful variation on the pentatonic minor that creates a gentle and ancient sound. It was created by Ash Dargan and invites in using the major sixth to your playing.
