Our Flute Making Process

Each flute is handmade from start to finish with care and precision.

SELECT

Each piece of wood used in our flutes is hand selected for quality, wood grain and sustainability. Harder woods make for a particular sound quality, while other grained woods give the flute a unique breath.

We source all our woods as local as possible, and treat each piece as the living entity it is, using all of it's pieces when possible.

SHAPE

These pieces are then cut and glued together to create your whole flute with mouthpieces, end caps and additional designs.

After, Altazor hand shapes each flute for smoothness, consistency and artistic design. Some of these flutes turn into animal heads, angular geometric designs, or smooth flowing edges.

TUNE

This is where the flute comes to life!

Using burning rods and expertise, Altazor tunes each flute at 20 C and at 60% humidity.

Every flute is professionally tuned at least 3 times to ensure the sound quality of every flute is perfect. Micro corrections and adjustments are made to ensure each flute sounds magical before leaving the workshop.

EMBELLISH

After each flute is shaped and tuned to top standards, Altazor adds his own special touch with stone inlays, wood burned art, hand-cut deer leather straps, and a water-based finish that will stand the test of time.

There are always new designs and creative elements coming out of the workshop!
